Teaching
At the University of Oregon, I teach courses on gender, family, and technology. Prior to joining the UO, I taught undergraduate and graduate-level statistics at the University of California, Irvine, both in-person and online. I also served as the sole Statistical Consultant for the Department of Sociology, where I supported demography master’s and sociology Ph.D. students with research design and data analysis. For support with Stata, download my free Data Analysis Resource Handout.
As a professor, I remain deeply committed to fostering inclusive and accessible learning environments—particularly for students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. I pursue this commitment by (1) developing inclusive approaches to data analysis, (2) connecting course content to students’ lived experiences, and (3) empowering students to become critical consumers and producers of social science research. My teaching has been recognized with multiple awards and consistently strong student engagement.

Student Feedback
“I genuinely enjoyed going to this class every week and really appreciate Mackenzie and her teaching style. She is kind, professional, funny, and also very relatable. It did not feel like a chore to go to her class; the curriculum, discussions, and assignments were all worth while and relevant. Would take again, and would recommend to peers!” — Technology and Society, University of Oregon
“The way this professor explained and taught content…kept students engaged and excited about the context! Really enjoyed this class and instructor! ” — Sociology of Gender, University of Oregon
“Mackenzie was integral to the student's success. She not only prepared us for lecture materials, but also aimed us in our own projects. Her knowledge and mastery was evident. I do not know if I would be able to do this course without her. Her slides were easy to understand and extremely thorough. She was always attentive and willing to meet outside of class if you were struggling.” — Graduate Statistics II, UC Irvine (2023)
